Protection classes
Class I |
The appliance is protected through the use of basic insulation and electrical earthing. A portable appliance in this class must have a plug with a protective earth. |
Class II |
The appliance is double-insulated. Class II appliances bear the double-insulation symbol. Portable appliances in this class have a Europlug. |
Class III |
A Class III appliance is designed to be connected only to a safety voltage (SELV) power source. Lighting systems in Class III require a separate transformer. |
