Type S3D2 disconnecting device, or alternatively type IB or IF fault indicator may be fitted to Distribution arresters so as to manage their end-of-life. The choice is based on the operating policy in case of arrester failure, which is resp. either continuity of supply (end-of-life in open circuit) or alternatively continuity of protection (end-of-life in short circuit).
